NCTC 2 of 2

Two parts of being at NCTC always surprise me.

1 - how many miles of walking I get in just by having to walk a short way to breakfast, then class, then lunch, then class, then to my dorm room to drop off my computer, to dinner, and back to the dorm room. It doesn't feel like much, but I easily get in 4-6 miles without even trying.

(Also I say dorm room, but they are really not much different than hotels.)

2 - how full the days are even without all the work of home, like cooking and cleaning. I usually get up at 6 to get to class by 8, and some mornings I didn't have time to meditate. Lunch is an hour long, but I'm usually finishing up some homework or visiting the gift shop, in addition to socializing and lunch. Then after class, between dinner, calling home, and doing homework, I usually don't get to bed before 11. I'm always surprised by that! I think if I had been in easier classes I'd have more time to do more activities.

Did you notice the birds in the Commons?

Here's a close-up.

Here's a distant shot of other birds. This is a bald eagle nest in that solitary tall tree. There is an eagle cam every year so you can watch the eaglets hatch. The campus is right on the Potomac, so there is good fishing for that family.

There's a day care center on site.

And a laboratory, among other facilities.

Land lots of land.

Places to walk.

On unpaved trails.

Or paved pathways.

The bridges often have people hanging out on them, trying to get cell coverage.

Until this visit, the campus didn't have WiFi, and I'd be on a bridge too.

There is a living room, with a fire place, and a kitchen, in every dorm.

The dorms are named after environmentalist change makers, like Rachel Carson and Ding Darling.

See you next time, NCTC!
