We fixed the van before, during and after our trip to Austin which did nothing to make me feel like 60+ hours of driving was cheaper than flying.

This happened just a few blocks from the house. The mechanic could not figure out how it happened but the shocks were 150,000 miles old, so maybe just old age more than any traumatic event.
